| Coverage characteristics | 5.1.1 Statistical presentation Industrial Production Indices are published based on the National Classification of Economic Activities – CNAE, in accordance with ISIC Rev.3.They are published in their original form.
For Brazil as a whole, monthly fixed-base indices seasonally adjusted are also published for general industry, industry sections, industrial activities and broad economic categories. The X-12 ARIMA method is used for seasonal adjustment. At the regional and state level, only the monthly fixed-base index of general industry is seasonally adjusted.

a. Law 5534 of November 14, 1968 (Law on duty of providing statistical data);
b. Law 5878 of May 11, 1973 (Law establishing IBGE Foundation);
c. Law 6183 of December 11, 1974 (Law on statistical and geographical national systems);
d. Decree 73.177 of November 20, 1973 that enacts these laws;
e. Decree 74.084 of May 20, 1974 that approves the national statistical plan; and
f. Decree 3.272 of December 3, 1999 that approves the organic law of the IBGE.
These laws establish the obligatory character of the provision of information to the IBGE and provide assurances of confidentiality of individual responses so that the data can be used only for statistical purposes. | Identification of internal government access to data before release | 1.2.2 Internal governmental access to statistics prior to release Directive 355 of November 5, 2007, issued by the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management, establishes that data are provided to the authorities from the preceding list at 7:00 a.m. on the day of release.
The data are released for the press and disseminated on IBGE´s Internet website at 9:00 a.m.

The last methodological revision was based on the results of the Annual Survey of Mining and Manufacturing Industry and also on the results of the Annual Survey of Mining and Manufacturing Industry – Product Statistics for 1998/2000.New data series is beginning in January, 2002 and the linking to historical index is for 1991 onward. 1.2.4 Advance notice of major changes in methodology, source data, and statistical techniques. The Annual Survey of Mining and Manufacturing Industry - Product Statistics produced by the IBGE, which provide information at the level of products of enterprises, can also be used to check the results of the indices of Monthly Industrial Survey of Physical Production. 4.2.2 Temporal consistency Industrial production indices are published from 1971 onward. | |||||||||||
