The compilation and publication of the data are governed by the Federal Law on Statistics (10/9/92) and the Federal Law on Data Protection (06/19/92).

The data are disseminated by the Swiss FSO as a service to the public.

The Federal Law on Data Protection specifies that the Swiss Federal Statistical Office cannot publish, or otherwise make available to any individual or organization, statistics that would enable the identification of data for any individual person or entity.

  • The Federal Law on Statistics provides that federal statistics have to be produced in an independent and scientifically correct way.
  • The laws also specify that the Swiss Federal Statistical Office is autonomous.

1.2.2 Internal governmental access to statistics prior to release

The data are made available to the following, two to four days before their release to the public: the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Home Affairs and the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank.

4.2.2 Temporal consistency

The Internet Website (http://www.LIK.bfs.admin.ch) publishes the press release, monthly indices on different basis, detailed results since 1966 and long series since the beginning of CPI calculation in 1914.
