The Data: Coverage, Periodicity, and Timeliness
Coverage characteristics	5.1.1 Statistical presentation Data are disseminated on the Industrial Producer Price Index (IPPI), a modified Laspeyres index (December 1999=100) is used. The index covers the prices of Costa Rica manufactured goods traded in the domestic market. The Index covers about 1000 products. The prices are collected monthly from 216 manufacturing establishments covering 63 percent of the sales of manufacturers goods sold in the domestic market by local producers. The prices exclude all taxes. The sample of products was selected from a sample of industrial enterprises, obtained by stratum, the size of which was calculated with a maximum permissible percentage error of 10 percent of the average and a confidence level of 95 percent. Weights are provided in respect of domestic sales of the sector in 1997. While no exact date has been scheduled to review the weights or change of the base of the index, provisions are made for the index to be modified every 10 years, or at more frequent intervals when major changes are expected in the productive structure of the manufacturing industry.

Advance dissemination of release calendar	5.1.3 Advance release calendar An advance release calendar which gives one-quarter-ahead notice of the precise release dates is disseminated on the Internet on the IMF's Data Dissemination Bulletin Board (http://dsbb.imf.org) and on the BCCR's website: http://indicadoreseconomicos.bccr.fi.cr/indicadoreseconomicos/.
Simultaneous release to all interested parties	5.1.4 Simultaneous release Data are released simultaneously to all users on BCCR's website (http://indicadoreseconomicos.bccr.fi.cr/indicadoreseconomicos/) and through the Índice de precios al Productor Industrial (IPPI) niveles por mes, Base dic. 1999=100) and Índice de precios al Productor Industrial (IPPI) niveles por división CIIU Rev. 3.
Integrity
Dissemination of terms and conditions under which official statistics are produced, including those relating to the confidentiality of individually identifiable information	0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics Central Bank of Costa Rica The data are compiled and disseminated in accordance with the terms and conditions of the National Statistical System (SEN) Law No. 7839 of November 4 , 1998 and the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR) Organic law 7558 of November 3, 1995 (with subsequent revisions). Law 7558 Article 14 (a) provides that, within the first 15 business days of each month, a statement of financial position shall be published, providing broad details on the Bank's assets and liabilities. Article 14 (d) provides that a monthly statistical summary shall be published of Costa Rica's economic statistics, with information on money and credit. Article 16 provides that the annual report (Memoria Annual) shall be published within the first three months of each year and that it shall contain the economic and financial position presented during the course of the year ended.   Law 7839 Article 2 governs the production, preparation, and dissemination of statistics by the institutions of the National Statistical System. 0.1.3 Confidentiality of individual reporters' data Central Bank of Costa Rica According to Law 7839 Article 4 all agencies of the national statistics system are required to compile and manage statistical data in accordance with the principles of statistical confidentiality.   Law 7558 Article 132 provides that individual data submitted by both individuals and legal entities shall be kept fully confidential. 1.2.1 Disclosure of terms and conditions for statistical collection, processing, and dissemination Central Bank of Costa Rica Law 7839 is available, in Spanish, at the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (INEC) Internet website at http://inec.go.cr and for a fee equal to the cost of the copies at the Statistical Dissemination and Information Service of the INEC, Tel ( 506) 221-9656, Fax (506) 223-0813, e-mail: inecinfo@racsa.co.cr. Law 7558 is available, in Spanish, at http://www.bccr.fi.cr/  in the "publicaciones" section. The Information Center of the BCCR, telephone (506) 243-4460 or 243-4462; fax (506) 243-4583; e-mail centroinf@bccr.fi.cr) , also processes requests from the public for photocopies (at a set cost) or free of charge via electronic mail.
Identification of internal government access to data before release	1.2.2 Internal governmental access to statistics prior to release Central Bank of Costa Rica No government officials have access to the data before they are released to the public.
Identification of ministerial commentary on the occasion of statistical releases	1.2.3 Attribution of statistical products Central Bank of Costa Rica There is no ministerial commentary accompanying the release of the data.
Provision of information about revision and advance notice of major changes in methodology	4.3.1 Revision schedule Data are final when first released. 1.2.4 Advance notice of major changes in methodology, source data, and statistical techniques. Methodological changes are not frequent and are published, together with the data, at the time the changes are introduced.
Quality
Dissemination of documentation on methodology and sources used in preparing statistics	5.2.1 Dissemination of documentation on concepts, scope, classifications, basis of recording, data sources, and statistical techniques The methodology is available in Spanish on BCCR's webpage (www.bccr.fi.cr), in the "Publicaciones" section under the title Índice de precios al productor de la industria manufacturera nacional, base diciembre 1999. A copy of the methodology can also be obtained in Spanish, for a fee equal to the cost of the photocopies, from the Information Center of the Central Bank. (See also summary methodology)
Dissemination of component detail, reconciliations with related data, and statistical frameworks that support statistical cross-checks and provide assurance of reasonableness	4.2.1 Internal consistency BCCR website disseminates detailed time series data on: The original series and monthly and cumulative rates of change for the general index from 1991, and the monthly index for each of the 19 ISIC, Rev. 3, divisions for manufacturing industries, from January 2000. The Information Center and the Social Accounting Department, both of the Central Bank, provide photocopies, for those interested, of the index level known as Índice de precios al Productor Industrial (IPPI) niveles por mes Base dic.1999=100", and Índice de Precios al Productor Industrial (IPPI) Niveles por división CIIU Rev. 3. 4.2.2 Temporal consistency The Estadísticas Económicas publishes detailed time series data of the IPPI by 1. monthly series of the IPPI, 2. monthly changes and 3. monthly cumulative changes, all from the last eight years.
