The Data: Coverage, Periodicity, and Timeliness
Coverage characteristics

5.1.1 Statistical presentation

Data, in Danish Kroner, cover central and local governments, municipalities, and social security funds. Data are based on central government accounts data, local government accounts data, and accounts data for the social security funds.

Component details, for all levels of the government sector, comprise consumption, transfers to households, current outlays, investments, capital outlays, tax revenue, capital revenue, current revenue and therefore deficit/surplus on current accounts and overall deficit/ surplus for all levels of the government sector.

As regards financing, information on the general government's asset-side (all figures can be broken down by sub sector level) is issued on a quarterly basis (in another publication with figures on the general government's debt).

Data for general government operations are compiled annually and quarterly for financing.
Timeliness

4.1.2 Timeliness

No later than 6 months after the end of the reference year for general government operations and one quarter for data on financing.

Advance dissemination of
release calendar

5.1.3 Advance release calendar

Statistics Denmark disseminates a quarter-ahead advance release calendar that gives approximate release dates on the DSBB and it is available in Danish on Statistics Denmark's home page (www.dst.dk). The precise release dates are disseminated at the end of the week prior to the release of the data in "Nyt fra Danmarks Statistik", in Danish and English. A regular notice to this effect is published in the "Nyt fra Danmarks Statistik" ("News from Statistics Denmark").

Simultaneous release to all
interested parties

5.1.4 Simultaneous release

Data are released to all interested parties at 9:30 a.m. CET, by issuing the news release "Nyt fra Danmarks Statistik" at www.dst.dk and at www.statbank.dk. Embargo procedures are stated in the working plan for statistics Denmark. All interested parties can obtain a copy or fax of the News Release on request.

0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics

All statistics are collected and published according to the "Act on Statistics Denmark" §6 (LBK nr. 15 af 12 januar 1972 and changed by Act nr. 386 of 13 June 1990 and Act nr.1025 af 19 December 1992) and the "Act on the Compilation of Index of Net Retail Prices" of February 3, 1999.

0.1.3 Confidentiality of individual reporters' data

According to the "Public Authorities' Registers Act" (LBK nr. 621 by 2 Oktober 1987, and changed by § 11 by Act nr. 192 of 29 March 1989 and Act nr. 346 of June 1991 and Act nr. 654 of 20 September 1991), data attributable to identifiable individuals (or enterprises) shall not be passed on.

The "Act on Statistics Denmark" specifies that Statistics Denmark is an independent institution governed by a Board of Governors, of which the chairman is the Director General of Statistics Denmark. The Board consists of 6 persons who all have insight into social and economic conditions.

The Board makes decisions of major financial significance, on the nature of information to be collected and also on the working plans of Statistics Denmark.

4.3.1 Revision schedule

Data are provisional and are usually revised five times during the next several years. Data become final 35 months after the end of the reference period.

Major changes in methodology occur only rarely. The public are informed of major change of methodology at the time the changes are introduced.

Methodology notes are included in the news release. The statistical types of cross-checks that have been performed on data are also described regularly in these releases.

5.1.2 Dissemination media and format

The main source of information is Statistiske Efterretninger: Offentlige finanser (Government Finances).

Data are published on a disaggregated level in the news bulletins which are available upon request from the contact person.
