| Dissemination of component detail, reconciliations with related data, and statistical frameworks that support statistical cross-checks and provide assurance of reasonableness | 4.2.1 Internal consistency “The preliminary data” are published within 40 days after the reference month. The information is given on total import and export, on EU level import and export and on Euro zone level import and export.
The monthly survey "Foreign Trade" publishes monthly data on merchandise trade for the reference month (and the cumulative for the reference year) broken down by commodity, branch of industry, use of goods and partner country. The monthly survey is published 9 weeks after the reference month.
4.2.2 Temporal consistency The impact of changes in the statistical system on definitions, coverage, methods, and other, for a sustained series of figures is impossible to avoid in foreign trade statistics.
The impact of changes in methods is the larger, the more detailed the application level of the statistics. For example the commodity-code-specific outputs at the CN 8 level by the country are liable to annual changes in commodity and country classifications. 4.2.3 Intersectoral and cross-domain consistency In addition to Foreign Trade Statistics, it is possible to obtain statistical data on foreign trade out of:
- national accounts
- enterprise statistics
- balance of payment statistics
The results of all these four statistical publications ought to be in a certain relation with each other.
However, the compilation and production of the data contained in the above statistics follow the recommendations on data sources and methods issued by various international organisations such as Eurostat, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations (UN), World Trade Organisation (WTO), etc.
The figures of the Finnish Foreign Trade Statistics somewhat deviate from the corresponding data of the national accounts and balance of payment statistics. The Central Statistical Office and Bank of Finland make certain additions and corrections to the figures involved in order that the statistics published by them correspond to the recommendations for national accounts (SNA) and balance of payment statistics (BOP). | |||||||||||
