release calendar

5.1.3 Advance release calendar

An advance release calendar which gives one-quarter-ahead notice of the precise release dates is disseminated on the Internet on the IMF's DSBB (http://dsbb.imf.org/Applications/web/sddsctycatarclist/?strcode=GRC). In addition, in the end of December of each year the NSSG publishes a release calendar giving the precise release dates for the coming year. The calendar is distributed to the press and is available free of charge to all interested parties. The calendar is also disseminated on the NSSG's Internet website (http://www.statistics.gr) under the item "Calendar of Press Releases."

Simultaneous release to all
interested parties

5.1.4 Simultaneous release

The data are released simultaneously to all interested parties by issuing the Press Release entitled ''Production Index of Mines, Manufacturing, Electricity, City Gas and Water''  to the media at 13:00. In the same time the release is distributed by electronic means to the subscribers. The press release is subsequently posted on the NSSG's Internet website (http://www.statistics.gr).

0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics

National Statistical Service of Greece (NSSG)

The National Statistical Service of Greece (NSSG) is a public agency, supervised by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and responsible for the conduct and dissemination of official statistics.

Production index

Pursuant to the EU Council Regulation (EEC) No 1165/98 of the May 19, 1998 concerning Short Term Statistics, all Member States are obliged to compile production indices. Moreover, the requirements of the Regulation (EC) No 1158/2005 of July 6, 2005, of the European Parliament and of the Council that amended the EU Council Regulation (EEC) No 1165/98, are taken into account.

0.1.3 Confidentiality of individual reporters' data

National Statistical Service of Greece (NSSG)

Provision has been made in specific articles of the Foundation Law 3627/56 and of Law 2392/96 so as to ensure the confidentiality of individual data. These laws govern all individual statistics collected by the NSSG. According to the above laws, individual data are subject to confidentiality and cannot be published or made available to any person or organization.

1.1.1 Impartiality of statistics

Principles of methodology as well as data dissemination can be freely determined by the NSSG, taking into account international practices and, in particular, existing Eurostat recommendations, instructions and norms related to the corresponding statistical item.
 

1.2.1 Disclosure of terms and conditions for statistical collection, processing, and dissemination

The data on the real sector and general government operations are disseminated by the NSSG as a service to the public. There are no legal provisions applying specifically to a particular statistics apart from the general legal provisions applying to all statistical areas.

The public can obtain copies of the above-mentioned laws from the Statistical Information and Publications Division (tel. 4.3.1 Revision schedule

The data are provisional when first released. The data become final as soon as all data collected become definite. Final data for the whole year are published in March of the next year.

4.3.2 Identification of preliminary and/or revised data

The data released for the most recent month are provisional and are published together with the revised data of the previous month, which are indicated as such.

1.2.4 Advance notice of major changes in methodology, source data, and statistical techniques.

Major changes in methodology of the Production Index, are provided through a special publication and news release after the completion of the entire procedure of the revision. The above revision takes place every 5 years accompanying the rebasing of the index and the adaption of the new weighting scheme. The public is informed of such changes in all relevant publications at the time the changes are introduced. Moreover, in case of major revisions and major changes in methodology there is also a special advance notice.

5.2.1 Dissemination of documentation on concepts, scope, classifications, basis of recording, data sources, and statistical techniques

Detailed information on methodology and sources used are available in the special methodological issue ''New revised indices of Mining, manufacturing and electricity-city gas production'' in Greek. A short note on methodology, in English, is available on the NSSG website (http://www.statistics.gr).

5.2.2 Disseminated level of detail

The special publication on methodology and sources used is available upon request and is sent to all subscribers for a fee. 4.2.2 Temporal consistency

The NSSG's "Statistical Yearbook of Greece" publishes final data on the annual averages of the Production Index for the last six years for:
1) total index, and
2) sub-indices for sections.

4.2.3 Intersectoral and cross-domain consistency

Consistency with other indicators of industrial production: Regular crosschecks are made with information from the other surveys. After the introduction of the new orders and turnover surveys for industry crosschecks for consistency are made with the relevant data indices.
