0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics

Statistics Directorate

  • The Office of the High Commissioner of Planning is the focal point of the national statistical information system, which is highly decentralized, with the various public and private agencies that play key roles in the production of statistics.

The legal instrument establishing the Statistics Directorate is Decree No. 2-75-463 of 10 Shaban 1395 A.H. (August 19, 1975) on the powers and organization of the secretariat of state attached to the office of the prime minister responsible for planning and regional development. This decree defines the powers, responsibilities, and organization of the Directorate.

0.1.2 Data sharing and coordination among data producing agencies

Statistics Directorate

  • The entity responsible for coordinating statistical research is the Statistical Research Coordinating Committee (COCOES), which is governed by Article 8 of Decree No. 2-95-148 of December 26,  1995; the Statistics Directorate serves as the secretariat of the committee.

0.1.3 Confidentiality of individual reporters' data

  • Article 8 of Royal Decree-Law No. 370-67 (of August 5,  1968) on statistical research protects the confidentiality of statistical data. The obligation to respond to authorized surveys and the penalties for not doing so are defined in Article 9 of the same Decree. Article 10 grants the necessary powers to the COCOES to coordinate statistical activity.

  • Before the results are released, studies and cross-section tables are prepared to ensure the consistency and reasonableness of the data.

 

 

Detailed statistics on employment (activity rate, employment, unemployment rate) are available by sex, age group, and level of education. More detailed data are available when the annual results of the survey on activity, employment, and unemployment are published.
