0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics Eurostat Rules on statistical compilation Council Regulation (EC) N° 322/97 of 17 February 1997 on Community Statistics (OJ N° L 52/1) sets the rules for General provisions, the Community statistical program and its implementation, Principles, Dissemination, Statistical confidentiality and Final provisions. Production index The legal basis for the indicators is the Council Regulation No 1165/98 of 19 May 1998 concerning short-term statistics , amended by the Regulation No 1158/2005 of 6 July 2005 concerning short-term statistics, referred hereafter as the STS Regulation. The definitions of short-term statistics variables are laid down in Commission Regulation No 1503/2006 of 28 September 2006 implementing and amending Council Regulation N° 1165/98 of 19 May 1998 concerning short-term statistics as regards the definition of variables. 1.2.2 Internal governmental access to statistics prior to release The news releases are forwarded for information purposes to the Cabinet of the Commissioner responsible for Eurostat on the evening before the news release's publication. No advance information is given to the Commissioner’s Cabinet for the indicators that are not published in the news release. The European Central Bank receives the European aggregates under embargo and for internal use only, prior to its release to the public |

Eurostat approach in seasonal adjustments corresponds to the direct seasonal adjustment method. Data on Short-term Statistics are disseminated in full detail in the domain EBT. A subset of the most important indicators is disseminated as well in the domain Euroind/IS. |
