| Coverage characteristics | 5.1.1 Statistical presentation Data are disseminated on the Hang Seng Index (31 July 1964 = 100) of shares quoted on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and calculated by HSI Services Limited. Quotes are as of market closing. The Hang Seng Index is a capitalization-weighted index of 38 companies that represent approximately 70 percent of the market capitalisation of all eligible stocks listed on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. It has been decided that the number of constituent stocks will be gradually increased to a maximum of 50. The compilation of the index will be switched from a full market capitalisation weighted formula to a freefloat-adjusted market capitalisation weighted formula with a cap of 15% on individual stock weightings. The changes will be phased in over a period of 12 months from September 2006 to September 2007. Notes: |

0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics Hong Kong Monetary Authority The Exchange Fund (Amendment) Ordinance 1992, which provides the Financial Secretary with the power to appoint a Monetary Authority to assist him in the performance of his functions under the Exchange Fund Ordinance (Cap. 66), came into operation on 1 April 1993. Section 7 of the Exchange Fund Ordinance requires that the accounts of the Exchange Fund be audited in accordance with the directive of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR . Stock market: Share price index The HKMA redisseminates the Hang Seng Index in its Monthly Statistical Bulletin as a service to the public. 1.2.1 Disclosure of terms and conditions for statistical collection, processing, and dissemination Hong Kong Monetary Authority The Exchange Fund Ordinance is published in the Laws of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region which is accessible to the public and is available on the website of the Department of Justice (http://www.legislation.gov.hk/eng/home.htm). |
